Saying goodbye is about the only part of my work that is not fun for me! I get very attached to my kids and families! First, what a joy it has been for me to have the Pat & Molly Boyle Family at Little Treasures. I've enjoyed working with you and caring for your children. Thank you for trusting me with that privilege. I'm so thankful you wanted Nora to stay here even when Lauralea moved on in her career over four years ago. Secondly, Sophie was the first new infant that I had after I went solo!! And so I have special attachment to her!! She was a wonderful Baby and I've often been so very thankful for such an easy Baby for my first one.
I looked through some pictures last night and chose one that was always a favorite of mine and posted it below. Sophie has been an absolute delight in many ways. I know she is ready to move on and she will love her new adventure at Pre-School. I love her sense of humor and how easily she laughs. (And she has a great laugh!!) She is super intuitive and tunes in to others around her and she has a kind and tender heart. She is truly a joy. I love you Sophie Boyle!
We had a fun morning even though Sophie coughed and coughed! Poor Sweetie! Reid was my puppy and we were playing "fetch" with a food toy. Sophie was cracking up; "laugh, cough, laugh, cough!" She said, "Hey Gary! Knock knock!" Who's There? "Take your socks off!" I don't get it. "I'll do it louder!" LOL! Ok, I'm sure that will help! It's obviously my hearing issue. I took a picture of the kids doing a "Goodbye Poster" for Sophie. We also played outside with bubbles and she rode bikes.

Sophie - 8/24/2017
Sophie ate most of her peaches for breakfast. No whole wheat bagel. For lunch she ate "homemade" pizza with whole wheat crust, hamburger and sausage, tomato sauce, peppers, olives, mushrooms, and pineapple. She also ate two servings of tropical fruit.
Nora was playing with Sophie and saying her "Daddy Daddy Daddy" chant! Sophie said, "I'm NOT your Daddy! I'm your friend!" Ha! Also this morning Sophie asked me; "Why does Nora suck her thumb?" I said, "I don't know. You'll have to ask Emily." haha! So we'll see if she remembers! Tuesday, in a similar scenario, Sophie asked me why Nora doesn't wear shoes. And she remembered to ask Emily too!! :)
Reid and Sophie were having a conversation and I heard this; "Sophie, have you ever had a leg concussion?" (she just looked at him) So he continued, "I have. On a neighbor's trampoline it bounced me so high I think I broke a bone." Haha!
Here are a couple pictures from Sophie just having fun this morning! First picture - She'd stole my pillows and run across the room with them. :) Second picture - she took the steps off the balance beam and was using the back side as her bed.
We played outside until lunch time and it was starting to rain. Reid was throwing the ball from one end of the yard to the other and he, Sophie, and Avi were running to get it. That Reid kid has a great arm and several times he threw the ball (one he brought from home about the size of a tennis ball) on top of the garage roof. (For those that don't know - it's 20 feet high) Well on the last throw it landed right in the rain gutter and that's where it stayed! The look on Reid's face was priceless - I assured him I have a ladder that reaches that high!! :)

Sophie - 8/23/2015
Sophie ate half of whole wheat toast and ate grapes for breakfast. For lunch she ate pork roast, half of whole grain tortillas, beets, bite of potatoes (no sweet potatoes or carrots), and two servings of fruit salad.
Sophie was pretending the mattress was her swimming pool and then she told Avi that Avi needed some goggles. Avi looked at her like; "What the heck are you talking about!?!" Avi just started jumping again! Haha! Sophie was pretty thrilled that she and Nora had on the same colors shirts. "Our shirts match!!" Reid was teasing Nora with the stuffed animals and Nora was cracking up. He started sticking the monkey in Nora's face (see picture) and saying, "monkey head, monkey head" which made Sophie laugh so hard she fell over onto the mattress laughing. Silly kids. I think Sophie has the cutest sense of humor!
Tate and Bode (Reid's brothers) asked me if they could bring over their 2 guinea pigs this morning to show the kids. They came about 10:00 and stayed until 11:15 so that took up a majority of the morning. The kids all had so much fun!! I had the boys put their pets inside the "pen" where the downspout comes out and that worked great. (That way no kids were going to step in their poop or pee.) Tate took one of the guinea pigs out and let the kids pet it and feed it. I have to mention that these guinea pigs are young ones that the Templeton Family brought home with them on their road trip earlier this month from Kansas City! :) Hey, that kept the boys occupied! Sophie totally didn't want to touch them and stayed very close to me, but eventually she got as brave as she could muster and touched one - with a lightning quick finger!! Ha! Well done Sophie!! Bode and Tate also did bubbles for the kids and we had a great morning of fun with them!

Sophie - 8/22/2017
Sophie ate two servings of toasted whole wheat muffin and no plums for breakfast. For lunch she ate whole wheat elbow noodles topped with applesauce, no chicken with stir fry vegetables, ate her oranges.
I took this first picture yesterday afternoon when Sophie and Avilene had both just woke up from their naps. Sophie had went right over to Avi, took her hand and walked to the Play Room. They were being so sweet to each other. When I took this picture I think Sophie may have been questioning whether Avi was actually awake yet or not!! :) Also from yesterday afternoon we were starting to eat snack and Sophie asked me what I was doing. I said, "Putting some butter on your corn. I think it'll make it taste good." Sophie said, "Or not." Haha! Cracked me up! She was pretty proud of herself when I laughed so hard.
This next note isn't about Sophie, but it involves Hudson so maybe you can share it with Maddy and Colin. Reid knows I have a chainsaw in my garage and he's slightly obsessed with that fact!! He also knows Hudson is sensitive to loud noises. This morning he asked, "Is Bubba coming today?" No, he's spending the rest of the week with his Tutu. Reid was thrilled, "YES!!! Now we can start up your chainsaw!" LOL!!
We read lots of books this morning, did some painting at Art Time, and Sophie was jumping off the igloo. She was pretty happy to see Baby Nora today as well. Nora was still at Flathead Lake yesterday and boy she was squealing to see everyone too!! Sophie played with some new dolls I got and tried to talk Avi into playing dolls with her, but so far that isn't happening!!

Sophie - 8/21/2017
Sophie arrived shortly before Lunch today so this will be a short Blog, but I wanted to say "Hi" to everyone! This is Sophie's last week so I'm gonna Blog every day she's here even if it's short!! She ate some of her taco salad; lots of hamburger because I put catsup on it for her, no olives, bites of lettuce and tomato, ate pita bread, and two servings of cantaloupe.
Reid was doing some kind of "informal survey" at Lunch time and asked everyone; "Do you guys normally get up at 2 AM!?" Haha! That made me laugh! So I said, "no, do you?" He said, "We do! But not today. We got up at 7:00 AM." :) His Mom told me this morning that Reid has been sleeping in frequently and so today they were transitioning to get ready for the school year. So maybe he meant 2 PM! Ha!
I took this picture of Reid, Sophie, and Hudson on the teeter-totter! Love all the beautiful smiles!! The kids had been asking to do bubbles, but we were waiting for Sophie to arrive before we started. So we did bubbles shortly after this. Thanks to Momma Molly for bringing some "eclipse sun glasses!" That was super fun!! (for me.) One more note that happened right before Sophie came, but I'll Blog it anyhow because it's cute: As we were going outside Reid made another proclamation! "Hey everybody!! It smells like bacon out here!!" LOL!! That somehow made the smoke seem more pleasant!

Sophie - 8/10/2017
Sophie ate half of her breakfast: French toast and dried plums. For lunch she ate everything: pulled pork sandwich, peas, and two servings of cantaloupe. At breakfast Sophie said, "Hey Gary, is this Snack?" No, this is breakfast. Why? She pointed at Hudson and Avilene and said, "These guys said it was snack." Haha! I guess they could be considered an unreliable source. Ha!
The following note is just an FYI for the Daycare Families. Things were a bit hectic right after breakfast (actually during breakfast) because Atley puked in her breakfast tray and that needed to be cleaned and also call her Mom and Dad to come get her. So that took some time and I'm only sharing this because if it's a stomach bug then others may have been exposed. The State Regulations are concerned about confidentiality, but in a Family Daycare Home that is hardly possible. I could tell you that a child had to be sent home with an illness, but it's not hard to figure out who it is!! :) And I feel it's important to let the Parents know when their child has been exposed.
These pictures of Sophie and Nora represent some REALLY cute play time!! In the first picture Sophie is standing with her legs apart trying to coax Nora to "crawl through the bridge Nora." Nora just looked at her, sucked her thumb, and giggled. Sophie, Hudson, and Avi were jumping and doing "butt bombs." So in the 2nd picture Nora is doing a Young Toddler version of a "butt bomb." She was standing, kind of doing a bounce, and flopping down on her bottom. Oh man, Sophie was on top of the igloo and laughing SO hard every time Nora would do that! Sophie said, "She's doing butt bombs and laughing!!" And of course that was all the encouragement Nora needed! She would do it, look at Sophie to see her approval, and they both were cracking up!! What a hoot!! :)
Look at this picture - so cute - sometimes you bicker, sometimes you don't!! 30 seconds before this picture they were bickering!! Moments after this picture Sophie said, "Bubba! Your neck is sweaty!" Haha! Then Sophie added, "Don't hit me, ok!?!" Hudson said or actually asked; "Are you very gentle?" Haha! What a pair! :) By the way, Sophie essentially ignored his question! Ha!

Sophie - 8/9/2017
Sophie ate some whole wheat toast and two servings of mangoes for breakfast. For lunch she ate hamburger with marinara sauce on whole wheat spaghetti noodles, no squash, and ate fruit salad. At breakfast Sophie said, "Hudson is leaving early." (dentist) She added, "I'm leaving early because I'm NOT going to the dentist." Haha!! Also, Atley was done with breakfast and we'd washed her and when she was walking by the table she waved "bye" to Sophie and Sophie giggled; "She waved bye." (Happens frequently.) So cute.
Yesterday afternoon we were outside and Sophie was singing - I couldn't understand all of it, but I got this much; "I got that feeling inside my bones." It was SO cute and even more so because she was giggling and laughing too. She said, "That's a Troll song." And Momma Molly confirmed this! Ha!
At breakfast Sophie was telling Bubba that "My Daddy gonna take me to the Fair." Hudson said, "Are you sure!?" Haha! That hit my funny bone. Sophie, on the other hand, was NOT amused at all! (How dare you question what I'm telling you!?) Cousins! Haha!!
I already told Momma Molly the story behind this first picture, but I'm posting it in Sophie's Blog anyhow. This was yesterday afternoon when Sophie was playing with her doll and called her "Baby Nora." So I called Sophie, "Mommy." So she informed me; "I'm Momma Emily." Isn't that the sweetest!? Sophie loves Emily and so does Avilene! They always run down the sidewalk to greet her in the afternoons.

Sophie - 8/8/2017
Sophie ate grapes for breakfast; no whole wheat bagel. For lunch she had a bite of shrimp (she was being brave - "I don't like shrimp, I like pesto." (Noodles!? Ha!) She ate brown rice, a bite or two of stir fry vegetables, and ate raspberries. At breakfast she said to me, "Conner broke his finger on the baseball team." Oh, that's too bad. Who is Conner? "Well you know him?" No. "Yes you do. It's Loren's brother." And she was so serious about it all. (Which a broken finger is pretty serious!!) Sorry about that Sophie, but I still have no clue. Was "Loren" a babysitter?
I obviously took this first picture looking into the mirror when Sophie and Hudson were in the chair or actually Sophie was driving the car!! (Look at Sophie's hands. Holding the steering wheel correctly at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock!) I mean, look at Hudson's face! A look of terror! Haha!! Get used to it Hudson! Haha!! In the 2nd picture Sophie was reading to Avi and the baby! I saw what they were doing and by the time I got the camera Avi was on her feet, but they recreated it for me!! Thank you Avi and Sophie! (I love it when they are old enough to do that!!) Haha!! Avilene is constant motion and it's hard to get a picture!!
We were outside playing and when Sophie got off the climber I heard her say (to no-one in particular), "What a lucky Day!!" It was so cute. We'd just read books before we came outside and that's what the Piglet said in Fox Story. Actually I think that's the name of the book. Minutes later I asked her if it was her lucky day and she said, "Yes and you're the Piglet. I'm the Fox!" Haha! Sophie, Hudson, and Avi were bouncing on the big balls outside and "flying" off and laughing!

Sophie - 8/7/2017
Sophie ate some breakfast: bran cereal and raisins. For lunch she ate a bite of chicken (from chicken salad), bite or two of pita bread, ate peppers, no olives, tomato, or cucumber, and ate LOTS of pears.
As soon as Momma Molly drove by the window Hudson looked at Sophie and asked, "Is your Mommy going back to the lake?" Haha! That hit my funny bone!! Then Lauralea was leaving for work, but took time to quickly fix Sophie's hair. I know I've posted so many of these same pictures in the last 2 years, but I LOVE them! And Sophie's time here is short so I can't stop now!! :) Baby Nora was sitting on the floor watching, tugging on her hair as if to say, "Hey! What about me!?" And you can't get your hair fixed without some bouncing on Lauralea's knee and singing 2 or 3 songs! (Sophie's ponytail is bouncing in picture number 3.)
During Story Time we were reading "What do you Love?" (From the Special Book collection.) One of the pictures is reading books and what they love is a "read-aloud." Sophie remembered me telling her and she answered, "That what we're doing!" Yes, and I love a good read-aloud!! I told Sophie I sometimes read to Lauralea too. She thought that was pretty funny!
We played outside and the kids chased bubbles again. In the last picture Sophie had more soap on her face than she wanted, but I was laughing and I think that's what kept her from crying!! Sophie and Hudson were also playing several games and one of them was serving ice cream. She asked Hudson, "Would you like a menu?" :) She asked me, "Do you want a cone or a cup?" I said, "Bucket!" She grinned and said, "How about a cone?" Ok.

Sophie - 8/2/2017
Sophie just had a few bites of breakfast: french toast with peanut butter and a fewstrawberries. For lunch she had a bite of salmon patty, ate dinner roll, no squash, and ate lots of tropical fruit. I asked her to have a bite of salmon and minutes later she informed me; "Gary, I ate ALL my salmon." What!?! I could see that wasn't true!! Haha!! Then I realized she was referring to the bite she'd had!
Nora was doing her "Daddy Daddy Daddy" thing this morning. Hudson said, "She call you Daddy." No, I think she says that word for lots of different words. Sophie said, "She call me Daddy." So I said, "Hi Daddy Sophie!" As soon as Nora heard me say "Daddy" she whipped her head around to see the "real Daddy!" Haha!
Yesterday afternoon I told Sophie that Avi was going to the ocean. She said, "Is she gonna go swimming and find a sea horse?!?" Well probably. Haha!! Sophie added, "At the Country Club I find a pink sea horse!" Ohhhh...Wow! :)
When Hudson came into the Daycare Room today I didn't take his shoes off or ask him to. That seemed to really bother Sophie after breakfast. She said, "Bubba! You didn't take off your shoes!!" Well 10 minutes passed and this time it was aimed at me. "Gary, will you take off Bubba's Shoes!?!" Ok I will. (Except I was cleaning up after BK and didn't get to it!) 10 more minutes passed - "Gary!! You didn't take Bubba's shoes off!!" Haha! She's never lacked in the area of persistence!
Nothing much to say about this first picture except how cute it is! Haha! Look at the nice posture! She looks like she's walking the Daycare Fashion Runway! :)
Sophie and Hudson were pretending to sleep on the climber outside. "Hey, it's morning time!" Then they'd "wake up" and start playing again. One of the times they were laying there Sophie said (to Hudson), "Don't tell my Mom that I'm sick!" Ha!!

Sophie - 8/1/2017
Sophie ate bites of breakfast: toasted whole wheat english muffin and grapes. For lunch she ate bites of pork chop, ate whole wheat bread, beets, and applesauce.
Sophie was doing all kinds of dramatic play and Hudson was frequently a part of it of course. Sometimes an integral part, sometimes on the fringes, and sometimes I'm not sure! Haha! Sophie was on the phone; "Hello!! I need your help! My Baby is sick and he had a bad dream last night!!" Hudson was wanting to help and said, "I"m the doctor. I go get a bandaid." LOL! Nothing like a bandaid to help your baby with nightmares!!
In this 1st picture Sophie had on her "ballet" attire and she was asking Hudson; "Bubba do you like my hair?" Hmm...this may not end well! You're gonna need to focus here Bubba! Her volume increased! "BUBBA!! DO YOU LIKE MY HAIR!!??!!" "What?" Ok Hudson, I'm gonna give you a lesson in life skills!! Just say "YES!!!" :)
If you compare this picture to the first one you can see the pants are now serving a different purpose! Ha! Dang she's a cutie!! She said, "Gary! I know Ballet!! Do you want to see!?" Sure. So she showed me and I mimicked her in a silly way and asked her if she liked my Ballet! She was laughing so hard! Love your humor Sophie!
Ok, this last picture is quite obviously NOT Sophie, but I'm giving at least partial credit to Sophie for Avilene making a big milestone today. Sophie jumping off the igloo yesterday made a big impression on Avi and she was so ready to try jumping off the blue balance beam! Nice job Avi and thanks for being brave Sophie!!

Sophie - 7/31/2017
Sophie ate whole grain chex cereal and peaches for breakfast. For lunch she ate hamburger on bun, no lettuce or tomato, ate avocado, and oranges.
This first note is actually leftover from Friday, but I want to post it anyhow because it was pretty cute. Baby Nora was kind of slapping Sophie and I told her to use "gentle touches." Sophie said, "Well, she's hitting me and I like it." Ha! Hmmm....that is not helpful Sophie!! :) And of course I told Sophie that she could help teach Nora to use gentle touches too.
When Sophie arrived today I told her she looked much older and she immediately informed me that as a 3 year old she was now ready to jump off the igloo! Ok, fine with me! So I helped her ONE time and that was all! I scooted the igloo over to the mattress so she could easily jump on it and it also allowed her to be able to get onto the top of the igloo by herself. (Which is part of the deal - you want to jump off there - you have to get up there!) So here are some pictures of the BIG DAY!! She did this over and over!! So cute! Hudson and Avilene thought they were now ready too! Ha! I told them they would both have to jump off the blue balance beam first! ha!
We did a toy, book, and puzzle exchange and Sophie loved the new dolls I got. (They really are new and not just toy exchange. Ha!) And of course she had to try on the dress-up clothes too. We also played outside and they chased bubbles.

Sophie - 7/28/2017
Sophie ate some oatmeal and ate dried cranberries for breakfast. For lunch she ate bite of tilapia, ate whole wheat elbow noodles, two servings of green beans, and ate applesauce. She's always keeping an eye on everyone for me! Constantly on the alert for violators!! Haha!! "Gary! Nora is spitting her milk!!" I actually appreciate it! We've had many "little monitors" over the years! Later she yelled, "Gary! Bubba is hitting Avi!!" Thank you Sophie!!
Reid and Sophie were doing some puzzles and Reid has been enjoying them in this toy exchange because there are lots of fish puzzles and He's the resident "Fish Expert." I could hear him telling Sophie, "These (pointing to some in the puzzle) fish are SO rare! Rarest fish in the world!" Haha!
These next 2 pictures are bowls of "Chicken Soup" that Sophie was passing out to the kids. "Chicken Soup, Chicken Soup!!" Hudson's chicken soup had walrus in it and Avi's chicken soup had octopus in it!! :) Everyone acted like that was totally normal - and now that I think about it - anything unusual is pretty much the norm for Little Treasures!!
Reid was so ready to go outside (and the others will frequently take up the chant on his behalf - haha!!) and as soon as we were ready it started to rain. So we watched it rain from the window inside! And it poured hard for several minutes - enough that we listened to it hitting the metal roof. We read books, sang some songs and looked at the Bear Cam in Katmai Park Alaska. Sophie was pretty mesmerized by the web cam - we listened to the water in the river, going over the falls, saw LOTS of fish jumping, and the bears catching and eating the fish.

Sophie - 7/26/2017
Sophie ate whole wheat toast and lots of grapes for breakfast. For lunch she ate bite of pork roast, bite of whole grain tortilla, bite of vegetable (potatoes and carrots, not brussel sprouts), and ate 2 servings of fruit salad.
When Sophie saw Hudson she asked, "Are you back from Denver with your Grandma?" So cute!! What is his Grandma's name? She said, "Tutu." Good job Sophie. Sophie was glad to see Bubba and he immediately joined her in some dramatic play. She definitely missed that when he was gone. She loves her dramatic play and Hudson is such a willing participant! In the first picture he was taking her combs and she said, "Thank you Momma." She said, "You wanna go to the park with me?" He said, "Bonner Park?" So they went to the park and she was pretending to be in a swing. "You wanna push me?" He said, "Swing." He totally gets what she's wanting to do and he frequently adds his perspective as well. Very cute.
We played outside for a long time this morning and the kids had fun with the toys, the climbers, searching for apples for Reid to pitch back over the fence, and doing some sidewalk chalk. In the next picture Sophie, Hudson, and Avilene were mowing the lawn. In the last picture Sophie is making some marks on the sidewalk with some chalk. Sophie and Reid did a nice job showing the "little ones" how to appropriately use the sidewalk chalk. Of course that didn't stop a couple of them from trying to make marks in the dirt. :)

Sophie - 7/25/2017
Sophie ate half of breakfast: whole wheat english muffin and dried plums for breakfast. For lunch she ate bites of chicken, brown rice, stir fry vegetables, and ate lots of oranges.
This first picture is from yesterday afternoon and it's already in the top 10 cutest pictures ever taken at Little Treasures. (I'm the lone judge of this ongoing contest and I make up the rules as I go!) I could see she was doing something cute with her eyes and she said, "I'm gonna keep an eye on the kids until my Mom and Dad come!" Haha! And that's a great example of how young children translate everything literally!! Dang, that's a cute picture!! Ha!!
Lauralea's sister (Julie) is here for a couple of days and Lauralea took time this morning to sing to the kids and bounce them on her knee. Sophie requested her usual Lauralea song; "Oh here we go to Boston, to Boston, to Boston....." Sophie, along with Avi, were also having fun showing off for Julie!
Here are a couple more pictures from this morning's activities. Sophie wrapped this pillow around her to use as her "backpack" and said, "Get my backpack; I'm going to the airport by myself." (I'm not sure how inviting Avi to go with her fit that scenario, but whatever....) Then when we went outside Sophie announced, "Hey guys, this is a playground!" Haha! In the last picture I think the conversation sounded like this: "No, it's my turn to sit in the chair. You had a turn." :) Nora's reply; "And what's your point?"

Sophie - 7/24/2017
Sophie ate some bites of breakfast: cheerios and banana. For lunch she ate some hamburger from taco salad; no lettuce, tomatoes, or olives. She gladly donated the olives to "Reido" to hold off his starvation! She ate no whole wheat pita bread, but ate lots of cantaloupe.
When Sophie arrives every morning she greets Nora with the sweetest touches and words. She loves her Baby Nora. (Look how adoringly she's looking at Nora!) Then that's pretty much it for the rest of the morning - however, Sophie still has her ear tuned into Nora and responds immediately if Nora needs something! (Which basically helps reinforce the "I scream, you fix it!" behavior. Haha!)
This has always been one of my favorite sights in the mornings at Little Treasures!! I remember many times when Lauralea was doing this for 6 - 8 girls every morning! (Feeling a bit nostalgic, but I'm gonna miss me some Sophie when the summer is over!!) I'm not sure who enjoyed this moment the most today - Lauralea, Sophie, or me!
We had a fun morning and Sophie played with some dress-up clothes, pretending to nap, having her babies take naps, etc. She's such a good example for the little people how to use the toys and create every imaginable scenario!! In the next picture Baby Nora is watching closely as Sophie is getting dressed up!! We also chased bubbles outside and here's a picture of her and Reid reacting to the same bubble. Reid said, "Hey Gary! Did you know you can actually use bubbles for sunscreen? The sun will not burn you!? (As he's smearing bubble water on his arm! Probably washing off the real sunscreen! Haha!)
